The conference was postponed due to the Flooding in Northern NSW and Southeast Queensland in March.
The aim of the conference was to re-ignite Alpaca members through friendship and a gathering through
specialised alpaca education.
Fifty-five delegates from all aspects of Alpaca & Llama farming attended the two-day conference. Delegates
travelled long distances to attend both from our Region, NSW, and QLD Regions.
Dr Jane Vaughan who covered topics of Nutrition, Parasites, Reproduction, Dealing with difficult deliveries and
other issues. Jane always delivers her topics well; many had not had the privilege.
Allison Quagliani was most interesting with her knowledge of Alpaca Dentistry in her session “Trip to the
Alpaca Dentist”. Many delegates bought her book which she graciously signed.
Dr Joan Gibbons from Murwillumbah Vet Clinic spoke about local knowledge and several local case studies.
Brian Donovan presented and showed videos of his Pocket Farm Fibre Millsetup at Wivenhoe QLD. Delegates
were very impressed with the size, type of mill and variety of services that will be available. Examples of the
stages of production and the end results, such as carpets and knitting to name a couple. Brian is currently
sourcing fleece from breeders.
Over the two days exciting Alpaca and associated products auction was held where delegates won bargains.
The Stud Sires Auction was well represented, and the Merchandise team were busy.
Thank you to Liz Coles and Rosemary Eva of Longueville Park for their initiative to get this conference off the
ground. The conference would not be possible without the Committee members who diligently worked over
Congratulations to all, a job well done!
